Great thanks for showing people this review,i do repair tablets in the caribbean and must say that this tab is very smooth & fluent with great specs but must admit that it's fragile body is truly a big let down also takes a lot of patience to fix, great specs comes with great price also if it need repairs so are the price of it parts,if you have one case it up well and enjoy.

my surface pro 3 is having trouble turning on and i have to slap it at the motherboard/fan area to get it turn on 🙁

Why does everyone watching seem to have a surface 🙁

Good luck trying to repair it yourself. You'll have to pay extra for service which adds up to almost the cost of a Macbook Air. Besides, it will not hold value like the Air does.

Could you do crack the Gear fit2 open?

  • July 25, 2016 at 11:13 am

I wouldnt mind if Microsoft made it a big thicker but with a removable back. Which would make sense in case the device overheats. But no, Microsoft has to grow their turnover so it has to be unrepairable and overheat…

I should have heeded the warning in the video, but no I cracked the corner of mine trying to get the front to lift off. My third Surface, but never again.

actually you must be the complete dumbass to think that its IMPOSSIBLE to service this device.
i've already changed SSD mdoule and replaced my display on my sisters Surface Pro 2 without any problems. instead of complaining about the device itself, better get more skills in servicing it…
Note that i'm not computer technician, and i never worked in repair shop. i'm just an enthusiast who did this without any tutorials for the first time while this moron is cracked the screen at the first attempt..

Is it worth replacing the screen and touch sensors. I was given a Surface Pro 3 with everything except the pen. the screen is cracked and the touch screen does not seem to work. but everything else works fine. It has an i5 cpu, 8gb ram, and a 256gb hd.

If so where can I get the screen and touchscreen fixed.

P.S. Do I need to use the pen for the touch screen to work?

Did you just call the charge port a micro SD card slot or am I missing something?

  • January 14, 2017 at 9:37 pm

Another MS ripoff, um really pissed off. My charge jack sux at only three months, the Surface is a POS. MS sux like Hilliary Clinton, don't waste your money.

Like many tablets, ultra-books, built as a throwaway. As shame for recovery, repair, and reuse. About Us and our venture:

We are a two person venture. Our focus is R3 (Recovery, Rebuild, Reuse). We rebuild Tablets/Laptops to gift to needy children & the disabled via NPO's (Non-Profit Org's); >2800 gifted in 15 years. Our hope is to make a positive difference for those in need. My disabled dragon son coordinates, QC tests, ships our devices through NPO's to the needy, and does the difficult work of managing our small scale profit center (See below).

I fund this work with my veteran's pension + working capital from sales of high-end tablets in our small scale profit center. This model fits "Capitalism for a Cause;" a concept I envisioned in the 90's, wherein a profit center funds its Not-4-Profit partner; creating a symmetry of self-reliance, and a symbol of collaboration.

Have one. Not buying another again. In fact, all its products seem to be half baked these days. With the ridiculous One drive sync performance through the "Big Brother" annoying default settings in win 10 and office 365, someone at Microsoft has to decide were this company is going to. Is it an innovating software house? A hardware manufacture? Apparently it abandoned the special attributes that made it a leader in the early ninety's. Because, Microsoft didn't relay invent anything new. It just imitated other's inventions with a smarter marketing approach. Well, the current quality of the product line of the company and the pathetic race to try and match google in the cyber app world and run some hardware shaky adventures makes Microsoft look like Sears…… Maybe they should add to the company's product line also Auto parts and house hold appliances…..but, hey, those products need to be reliable….can't restart them every month or download a service pack…..Well, If they don't refocus quickly they will end up line Novell…who remembers that company???

They did this to force you to buy the more expensive models, I got the Pro 3 i5/128gb/4gb and it simply isn't enough RAM. MS didn't want you to be able to increase ram or HD space. iPad's might be easier to open, but you cannot increase RAM more HD space with plug in modules like with the Intel based Pro. So I think they were designing it to be not upgradable like the iOS devices, forcing you to pay a silly huge premium up from for more storage.

  • August 17, 2017 at 2:54 am

I don't know why but this made me feel uncomfortable to see a Surface Pro 3 getting cracked open.

  • September 28, 2017 at 3:57 pm

Can you please show how to crack open a Docking Station

  • December 28, 2017 at 11:14 pm

I am a Surface Pro 3 user and love it to an extent. However, for MSFT not to offer an available 5 or 3 year replacement warranty with no question asked make it hard for me to recommend. I completely agree with this awesome review!!!

  • January 12, 2018 at 7:35 pm

There's some information I would like to get off of the hard drive on my surface pro 3, what sort of drive is in it and is it possible?

  • March 1, 2018 at 10:51 am

What a shit construction. All states in the world should prohibite such constructions.

  • April 9, 2018 at 11:08 am

My 5 year old surface pro 3 failed me today, with lots of info I did not backed up (shame on me). I am outside the USA, so I see that I have a lot of trouble just to get my ssd card to recover my most valuable information. Sad!

  • June 18, 2018 at 2:10 am

Interesting. The reality: Microsoft ONLY replaces these devices. There is no service option involving any kind of repair. Period.

My DIY heart was pained by that reality, but I got used to it. This is by far the most powerful line of tablets available. Gigabit networking, USB3 I/O, etc. Lots of speed yet a very thin tablet.

Hello! mi Surface Pro 3 i7 has fallen and the display is broken just in the same side of the mothercard, the touch screen is disabled now and it works almost fine, but now when i turn on the tablet windows not always start at the first try and i have to force the shutdown, sometimes start at the second or even third try, any recommendation? I mean…i don´t know if its a good idea change the display if i have the windows system problem.

Thank you very much for your video. I was encouraged to buy a surface with battery issues but at this point, na na.

  • August 3, 2018 at 8:18 pm

I see a lot of folks commenting stating that they have opened it up no problem. I have the issue where the battery will not charge and would like to replace it, but most accounts say you cannot do this without the screen cracking (like he did) any suggestions on how you all did this successful?

  • August 24, 2018 at 5:28 pm

I have the i7-CPU 256GB SSD model with 8GB of RAM, and I think the RAM is defective. I contacted Microsoft last year and they wanted a whopping $600 to replace the tablet ($600 for an outdated tablet just sitting in one of their warehouses? No thanks!). I read elsewhere that the memory is "not upgradeable"; is that because it is inaccessible? Although you removed the motherboard, I did not see the RAM in your deconstruction of the tablet. I would greatly appreciate information regarding the Surface Pro 3's RAM specifications-the manufacturer, model/serial number, etc (preferably of the 8GB model). Thanks.

If you go to all that trouble opening at least mod the device with an internal ssd or hub or 2nd wifi card or something

  • September 28, 2018 at 1:00 am

How important are the antennas connected to the front facing camera ? I damaged mine slightly whenn prying screen open

  • October 19, 2018 at 4:28 am

I'm gonna tell you straight up, if you're looking for a gaming computer look elsewhere. This is a school computer meant for school or writing and you could build (or get a prebuilt) beast of a pc with a monitor and a keyboard and mouse for this much money, just a warning.

I'm so tired to see that continuous bunch of rotten thing that you can't open, repair, upgrade, and you have to early throw away, finish to fill our world with lot junks mountains, so it's better to even not get out things from the shop.
We have to be all green and renewable; except industries that have many permissions to continue to burn resources and destroy our world just for nothing, in this crappy mass binge of the useless things, after all even without happines. that's all.
